Welcome to our April newsletter.
March was a Quantum-packed month for Pawsey and Australia. It started with SupercomputingAsia 2025 (SCA25) in Singapore, where we unveiled a big milestone in Quantum-HPC integrationâa new workflow combining CPUs, GPUs, and QPUs with NVIDIA Grace Hopper Superchips and Quantum Brilliance Virtual QPUs. Following this event, our CEO and Quantum team were on the move; we hosted QuEraâs Jonathan Wurtz, supported Quantum Australia in Brisbane, and participated in the Quantum Industry Day at NSW Parliament.
While all of this was happening, Mark Stickells took a moment to reflect on the journey of procuring and deploying Australiaâs most powerful and greenest supercomputer, Setonix. Pawsey and Quantum Brilliance Advance Quantum Integration with Novel Hybrid Workflow
In collaboration with Quantum Brilliance this month, we have achieved a major breakthrough in incorporating quantum computing into real-world applications. Led by Dr. Pascal Elahi and the Pawsey quantum team, the project developed a hybrid workflow that seamlessly integrates CPU, GPU, and quantum processing power.
This innovation paves the way for advances in AI, bioinformatics, and radio astronomy, reinforcing Australia's leadership in quantum and supercomputing convergence. With plans to extend the workflow to Pawseyâs Setonix supercomputer using a physical quantum computer, this achievement brings quantum computing one step closer to practical implementation.

Programming the smallest particles to harness the power of quantum computing
UWA's Professor Jingbo Wang explores quantum computing by simulating single atoms, electrons, and photons. Her research, leveraging the Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre, develops quantum algorithms for machine learning, optimisation, and network analysis.
Unlike classical bits, quantum bits (qubits) exist in multiple states simultaneously, enabling exponentially faster computations. Jingboâs team demonstrates real-world quantum applications, from scheduling complex tasks to analysing large networks with unprecedented efficiency.
By modelling quantum logic operations on supercomputers, Jingboâs research is laying the foundation for this imminent leap, bringing us closer to a future where quantum computers unlock new scientific and industrial frontiers.
